Approaching Christmas...

Here we are approaching Christmas - soon my phone will ring off the hook and my email inbox will be full of people wanting puppies for Christmas. Not recommended - get a puppy a few days after. Go visit the puppy as a surprise a couple of days before Christmas and then pick up after the craziness settles down. Or, get a puppy at the beginning of Christmas so it gets to know  you, your family, your yard, and your house BEFORE the craziness begins. Potty training is hard enough and then if you add instant chaos - ugh!

ALSO, if you DO insist on getting a puppy during this holiday season, please please please remember to never take your puppy to a park, a pet store or even a house with another dog (if you aren't sure they are completely vaccinated) until one week after their 12 week shots. Dogs can transmit illness from nose to nose, and people who pet their dog and then pet yours - if they have slobber or anything worse - can transmit their dog's problems to yours. It isn't worth it.

Dress up puppy and post pics online instead - it will be a happy healthy puppy for the New Year!!

Our Little Man Carter

Here are some new pictures of our little man Carter - he is the best of the litter from Diamond Sparkle and Prince Wallace. He is a bundle of love and charm! Smelling the pollen on the flower put yellow on his muzzle! Oops!

Dog food recalls

CINCINNATI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has voluntarily recalled specific lots of dry pet food because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These lots were distributed in the United States and represent roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of annual production. No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.
Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
This issue is limited to the specific dry pet food lot codes listed below. This affects roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of total annual production. The affected product was distributed to select retailers across the United States. These products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site. P&G’s routine testing determined that some products made during this timeframe have the potential for Salmonella contamination. As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this timeframe. No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.
P&G is retrieving these products as a precautionary measure. Consumers who purchased a product listed below should stop using the product and discard it and contact P&G toll-free at 800-208-0172 (Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM ET), or via website at www.iams.com or www.eukanuba.com. One week old!

Sunny's babies are fat and happy! They are one week old. Everybody is growing quickly, and Mommy Sunny is taking great care of them. Auntie Sparkle keeps checking to see if the babies are ok, but Daddy Wally isn't allowed in the crib yet according to Sunny :-) He can check on them from outside of the crib. We have two boys and one little girl.

Sunny's PUPPIES

Sunny started delivery about 10:30 am today and we have 2 boys and one little girl so far. Since they are coming pretty fast, pics will wait just a bit! But wanted to let everyone know!!

It is 2:30 pm now and we have two boys and one little girl :-) Sunny has already asked to go outside and all are doing well. The vet had predicted three so we are on target - I am keeping my eye on her closely in case there is another.

We will let Sunny and the babies rest and eat then some clean up and pics later tonight!

Dog days of August!

Two adorable boys available now - they are doing SO well with outside training and crate training! They are little food pigs though! :-)

Sunny is definitely expecting around August 16th. We plan to X-ray in the next week to find out how many sweeties to expect! She is a food pig too, but she is eating for more than 1 ha ha!

Three of the puppies are have gone to their forever families. Bella is already sold, but is staying with us for a few extra days.

Sparkle has certainly noticed and counts those puppies often, but she does not want to nurse them anymore with their mouths full of teeth! She played and played with them yesterday, rolling them over and chasing them thru the house. Her biggest game is to jump in a chair and say ha ha you can't get me!

Ok folks! We have names and colors!! The purple girl is Keely, the blue girl is Deliah, the gold girl is (maybe) Skye. The brown boy is William Alexander, the green boy is Jean-Baptiste, and the orange boy is Pierre. Only Jean Baptiste and Pierre are still available, the others already have wonderful families anxiously awaiting an August coming home date! More close ups later - we all have our eyes open and our ears are opening over the next couple of days!

Latest updates! All of our little girls are already sold, and one little boy is sold too! So we have two boys left. Here are some pictures of our darlings.....they are holding up their heads, and really trying to stand up! Their eyes will open by the end of this week, so we have to be careful about flash pictures until they are all open.

Just a note about the photo with the 6 puppies - please pardon Sparkle's appearance as she just had 6 puppies you know!!

Oh my goodness!! 3 boys and 3 girls! Wally loves to throw matched sets!! Weights range from 7.9 ounces to 5.6 ounces..........but gaining every minute. Sparkle is exhausted, but is taking good care of her babies!

More tomorrow - I mean today! :-) Her water broke at 10:15 and she just passed the last placenta at 1:15. Very fast for 6 puppies! Sparkle can have anything she wants to eat or drink so she can quickly gain some weights to feed all of these pups! Right now she is enjoying scrambled eggs and milk. Milk because she doesn't like the calcium pills.

3 Puppies so far!! 2 boys a one girl! 3 more to go! Sparkle is doing sooo well! I have never had such a great first time Mommy!!

HERE THEY COME!!! A little early but it is going well so far and Sparkle is really shining as a new Mommy!!

Prince Wallace (Wally) just mated with our daughter's bichon Lizzie. Lizzie is now around July 25th. They made such a cute couple! They love to hang out together and snuggling on a stack of pillows is their absolute favorite thing to do!

X RAY RESULTS

On Friday we received exciting news! Diamond Sparkle is expecting 6 puppies! And today we have a temperature under 100 which usually means delivery is within 24 -48 hours. The delivery date range is June 5 - 7, so we will see. I will keep you updated!

All of our puppies have now gone to their forever homes! I am posting some pictures of them before they went. 6 weeks old

All of the puppies have found forever homes now! They are eating solid food, but still nursing because their Mommy spoils them! They sleep through the night and are doing very well using the paper for their toilet needs which is separate from their blankets.


They are also starting to come out on the floor and play with the big kids! Yesterday they stayed in the kitchen and took all of the toys out of the toy box and played until they collapsed on the baby blanket! no accidents and they had a great time! Our kitchen floor is heated so that made it nice too.


This weekend it will be a little warmer so they will start going outside! I hope to add a video here later today.

Three beautiful and healthy babies!

We had one little girl first and then two boys. Easy births all three. Everybody has eaten and filled their little bellies. I will weigh them later tonight. They are already very vigorous and strong! Good job Sunny and Wally!

Puppies are here!

We had a little girl about 3:15 this afternoon and now a little boy at 4:15! One or two more to go! Pictures soon after we are done!

X-ray results are here!

The X-ray results show 3 maybe 4 puppies. I am including the picture, but taking pictures of X-rays is a little tricky! Sunny is slowing down just a bit movement wise, but she is still is very active spirits!

Sunny is getting bigger and bigger! Her appetite is strong and she burps...it is quite cute! Those puppies take up enough room that she has to burp to digest everything. She is starting to nest, and is indicating interest in the baby bed in the kitchen. It is all ready with the warming pad for the newborns and comfy cushions for Mommy.

We think the due date is on or before the 26th of January. I was on vacation before the 24th of November and Sunny and Wally may have bred a day or two before. My dog sitter is great, but sometimes they are shy and don't breed in front of other people! I can understand that ha ha!

A grooming note............for the gunk that gets under their eyes, the best and easiest tool is a  eyebrow brush/comb tool available in the makeup tool area and costs around $3.00. The gunk combs out quickly which makes your baby happy!
